Something we’ve all heard and said at some point in our life.
Well it was said to me the other day, and I have not been able to shake it. I have literally been thinking “What the f#@+*! Does that mean?” It’s such a flippant vague thing to say, yet it is so imperative and poignant.
So let’s break it down.
A lot of people:
I would say that means all of us.
Need to do A lot of THINGS:
I would say that means our own individual activities, responsibilities, jobs, etc. So now, let’s seize these THINGS and DO them with enthusiasm, hope, courage, and glory!
I know…
It just stuck with me, and this is what I have to say about it.

To me it means that people always seem to be too busy to stop and smell the roses. They always make things that aren’t really that important too important in their lives that days just pass them by.
It means “people aren’t behaving the way I want them to behave”. Not terribly deep, but that’s about it.
I think it means we shouldn’t wait around for 1 person to do everything (the Oprahs of the world). If we all do something it has far greater power than the one. It’s an anthemn for the people to rise up and evoke change individually.
I think it’s one of those vague things people say when they want to try to address the elephant in the room. It’s like a “you know exactly what I mean” statement.
I, for one, have never heard this saying, Stacey, so it would be of interest to me to perhaps hear the context in which it was delivered. But I would say that, in genera, most of “the world ” recognizes that it is comprised of mostly “followers”, that are looking for others to “poiint the way” and/or make their world more comfortable/livable. That thought might have been in the mind of President Kennedy, when he made that now immortal statement about asking “..not what our country can do for us..” Folks need to realize that, as you say, focusing on our “own business” and less (none?) on others, the world around us will have advanced. Our locale, city, state, nation, and world, is no bigger or better than the people who comprise it.
i would say alot of people need to do alot of things mean that its alot of us in the world and that we all need to be doing alot of things to make the world go round! for example people have all diffrent type of jobs. so therefore we all are doing alot of things because we all arent doing the same thing
