Today was not such a good day for writing. I was working on my “The Mind” chapter. I turned over my 1/2 hour glass and as the sands of time fell so did I… My mind wandered to dark places. It told me everything I’ve done wrong, everything I could not do, and showed me in detail all of my imperfections. When the last grain of sand fell I was left with nothing. I had to shut off my computer and get on with my day. I wasn’t going to blog about this, but then I told myself Yes! I realized I needed to share this and hopefully I’ll learn something from the experience. (Maybe you too?)
So today I found that it is true that the mind is a terrible thing to waste, but it is also at times a TERRIBLE thing to listen to. Sometimes you just need it to shut the f@#%! up!
Stacey I find this to be so very true. I find when I shut down the negativity my mind have just put out and come back later. This will allow time for the good to ooze through so you can put it with the bad, then bring fourth understanding and hopefully some balance and wisdom.
Sometimes it’s best to just write whatever is bothering you. Dont think about it while your doing it, but just do it. Look back at later and you get a better sense of what you were feeling at the time. The only way you are going to face whatever is troubling you is to listen and have a follow up plan if needed.
I think it’s great you were able to walk away and not obsess over it. The writing won’t sound forced that way. And you never know, calling it a day and relaxing away from creepin thoughts might be just what you need to stimulate an “A-Ha!” moment for what you’re writing about. Keep on keepin on with the writing everyday, it works. And shake the negative thoughts off!
I’m inspired by your journey. In the big scheme of things, what matters most is what you do, not what you’ve done…who you are, not who you were. Every second of every day, the “you” that you are is just a culmination of all the thoughts you have had, words you have said, the actions that you have taken and what the outcomes of all those things together have been. All of those things form the interpretation in your mind that you currently have about yourself, others in your life and that you come in contact with, as well as the world at large.
Every second that goes by is the present, and an opportunity to start re-defining who you are for yourself and for other people, by shifting your thinking, words and actions, and you are only bound by the past if you don’t realize that every second is a new opportunity to create a new future the moment you accept that fact. Learning how to complete the past and not be bound by it, and powerfully create the future that you are committed to is not just something you do, it can be studied, learned, practiced and applied systematically like any other discipline such as math and science.
A great place to start this learning process is by doing the Landmark Forum and if you’re truly committed, completing their educational curriculum for learning how to create and live the life that you are committed to in all aspects, because it goes much deeper than just career or money. All the money in the world won’t fill the void that is there when you don’t know self or know how to get the burden of the past out of your past and present so it stops holding you down mentally and emotionally. I’m a business owner, and I don’t work for Landmark or anyone else, but I share it because it truly does make a difference. I want to wish you the best on your journey, your courage to make it a public one is inspiring.
Hi Stacey,
Congrats on your new endeavor! Looking forward to reading your book…
Stacey, the pieces you write sound to me like you are dealing with a depression and are learning to get to know yourself and how to deal with your thoughts and emotions. Don’t know if I’m right, but if I am right, don’t worry about it, as you have written yourself, all thoughts and emotions are always created by yourself, so the only person who has control over your thoughts and emotions is you!
I agree sometimes are minds can play tricks on us. To me life is all about what type of mentality we have. I feel likeep we let negativity in there when we start to think of negativity that is why it’s best to train our minds to think of the positives before anything else and to never let any negativity get in the way of our happiness. I find myself in crazy situations and I began to write down nothing but the positives I can get out of the situation and I focus only on the positives and I notice myself having less stress. Less worries and less headaches. Most of the time our minds get bad habits and over power our body
and self control, but I’ve learmed that if you train your mind to think of the goods before the bad that you will began to have a stronger mentality which can lead to having more self control and living a less stressful life. I have a saying something like this…. if the positives out weighs the negative then there’s no reason to stress because the more positive you have you will win and if there are more negatives then you learn to subtract the negative and add some positive in there. I know life gets complicated at times but what moSt people seem to forget is that life is a gift and each day we see is another day opportunity to change our lives or help others change theirs.
I can tell you are a strong woman, And God is not finished with you. don’t laugh at this but my mother would always tell me that women are like tall coconut trees or palm trees, storms will come and blow, the wind will blow, but those trees they swing down without touching the ground, and they swing right back up, but men when they fall they hit the ground and it takes them a while to get back up you have what it takes to stay up because you are a real woman and your faith is strong stay true and god bless you
As to deserving, know that the gift of Heaven is free; this gift of Knowledge is so great that no effort whatsoever could hope to ‘deserve’ it.
Stacey, your are totally right. I just won’t use the curse word to shut up my mind. I honestly believe the mind is the hardest thing to fight. For in our minds, Our joy, peace, love, smarts, determination, and etc start there. I often have too many conversations with myself about what I can not do. Joyce Mayers and Bishop Noel Jones both have books on the mind. I have not read them but several individuals I know have.
